Marcus Barcham-Stevens is a composer and violinist, and has played with CHROMA for over 12 years. He is a member of the Fitzwilliam Quartet and co-leader of the Britten Sinfonia. He has performed as a chamber musician at the Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall New York, with John Eliot Gardiner's ORR and plays in recital with his wife, pianist Christina Lawrie.

Marcus was principal violin of the CBSO 2000-2002 and has guest-led Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Musikfabrik Köln, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Aurora Orchestra, the Opera Group, the National Youth Chamber Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra USA and the Cyprus State Orchestra. Conductors for whom he has played in contemporary groups include Pierre Boulez, Heinz Holliger, Sir Simon Rattle, George Benjamin and Oliver Knussen.
