Elena Hull is a double bass player and multi-instrumentalist from Somerset. She attended the Yehudi Menuhin School and subsequently the Royal College of Music as a full scholar.
Since then she has been all over the place playing all sorts of music. Classical music has taken her to the most prestigious venues in the world playing guest principal bass with some of the best groups in the world: Bergen Philharmonic, Britten Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players, KORK (Oslo radio orchestra), and most recently Aurora Orchestra – performing memorised symphonies to great acclaim. She has also played on the soundtrack to some of your favourite films.
Elena is very happy playing music of all genres. You can sometimes spot her playing slap-bass in a bluegrass band or singing backing vocals in a folk gig. She loves playing solo bass in a virtuosic fashion and actively encourages and commissions contemporary composers to think about the bass and its capabilities.
Recently, after working with the Silk Road Ensemble’s Global Summer workshops, she has been inspired to pursue improvisation and cross-culture collaboration. After all, music is the thing that unites us all..
