RURAL NETWORK

One of CHROMA’s priorities is our “rural network” – made up of venues in far-flung places which are keen to have first-rate contemporary music, but struggle to attract top flight ensembles as their budgets are so small. We are building this network on the back of existing relationships with venues, local schools and communities, offering a package that includes education/outreach work. By offering more, more is possible!

CHROMA is building deeper relationships with these smaller communities. For example, on the Shetland Islands - which we have visited six times in the last seven years - we work with every school on the islands of Fair Isle, Yell, Fetlar and Unst, and also include schools on the West Mainland.

In Norwich for the last ten years we have visited the same local primary schools with varying projects, always culminating in a proper concert experience at the John Innes Centre for all those schools involved.

In Berkhamsted we are developing a series of children's concerts which precede evening recitals of programmes that include contemporary pieces alongside more familiar fare.

To see the forthcoming programmes please have a look at our calendar.

To see what we've done with the schools of Shetland click here (Odyssey) or here (Tangotastic). For work with schools in Norfolk choose the links in our education page.

"The Classic Fair Isle Festival was a success simply due to CHROMA. It is not often a composer gets to work with such a friendly, focused, accurate and energetic ensemble. Their enthusiasm for contemporary music brought the whole island alive and indeed, the northern community still rave about them today." Alastair Stout
