CO-OPERA CO

Co-Opera Co. is a training opera company aimed at professional opera singers in the early stages of their careers, undergraduates nearing the conclusion of their course, budding conductors, directors, répétiteurs, stage managers and lighting designers.

The Members of Co-Opera Co. are a group of like-minded professionals, from all areas of the performing arts, who believe strongly that it is their duty to pass on their knowledge and experience to the next generation. This will be achieved through a series or weekend workshops and a summer school.

CHROMA joined Co-Opera Co as orchestra for:

La Boheme by Puccini:
Musical Director: Tim Murray
Director: William Relton
Orchestra: CHROMA
and

Abert Herring by Britten
Musical Director: Nicholas Cleobury
Director: Ashley Dean
Orchestra: CHROMA

"These two productions were accompanied by the Chroma Ensemble, playing Britten’s chamber score and Jonathan Dove’s brilliant reduction of the Puccini with expertise in both cases" George Hall OPERA NOW Nov 09

“I think this is a wonderful initiative. We have just completed our exhaustive auditions for next year. 256 people from 50 countries for only 5/6 places. Although there were some really good "singers", we all know that there is always someone better, younger, hungrier and cheaper - no matter who you are!! And what was apparent is that there is a general lack of guidance for singers at the start of their careers on how to raise the bar from being one of many good singers to becoming an interesting and unique artist. I therefore unreservedly support this initiative which actively aspires to encourage this awareness.”
David Gowland - Artistic Director, Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, Royal Opera House
