feb 06: attentive children at the Norwich schools concert

Odyssey Blog : 03 March 2006

3 March: by Claire

Had a chat with Anne Sinclair (knitter, Fair Isle) last night. Shetland is under a deep covering of snow, all the schools are closed and the children are out sledding. Sounds blissful, but hope the roads are passable once more for our visit, or things will get very interesting!
We talked about the various ways knitting and spinning could be incroporated into the schools workshops - each group has a different level of knowledge of the Odyssey story, as some studied it last term, (Fair Isle school took part in the opera workshops last October, and the Unst schools have written their own musical version of the myth), but to some it will be new, so we have four different schools programmes, broken down into primary and junior ages. However, despite the variety of activites, Anne came up with lots of brilliant ideas, so the challenge is only to pare it down to something that will work in two 3-hour sessions!
