"truly remarkable playing...
verdict: a gem of an evening"

Leamington Courier review
of the Bach Goldberg Variations programme

CHROMA - CLASSIC

CHROMA has a reputation as a contemporary music ensemble, but it also performs standard repertoire, with the occasional programme featuring largely standard works. Programmes are selected for their balance and interest, considering the audience’s journey through the programme as well as the musicians’.

Most often, familiar classic pieces will be programmed with contemporary pieces, even if the programme is focused on the standard repertoire. For example, the Bach Goldberg Variations are programmed with Winter Sunrise by Howard Skempton, and Mozart's Divertimento in Eb for string trio is programmed with pieces by Huw Watkins and Elizabeth Maconchy.

"CHROMA's concert at Keele was fantastic and people are still talking about the Beethoven Septet ... a great success"
Alexandra Scott, Keele Concerts Society

"This concert featured two masterpieces of the string sextet repertoire - Tchaikovsky's 'Souvenir de Florence' and Schoenberg's 'Verklarte Nacht' - we listened to very fine ensemble playing, full of commitment and attention to detail and also showing a delightful rapport between the players: it was as if a group of friends had sat down to play music that they all loved. A memorable evening." David Sumner, WestFest
